Frances Koons

Frances started running in the fourth grade, and although she got off to a slow start, she decided to stick with it after she was cut from the seventh grade cheerleading team. In high school, she whittled her mile time down from 5:35 as a freshman to 4:47 as a senior, was a 4-time Pennsylvania state champion, and placed 9th at the Footlocker Cross Country Nationals her senior year, which caused the storied Villanova track program to take notice. During her stellar career at Villanova, Frances was an 8-time All American in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track, and was runner-up in the NCAA indoor 5000 in 2009.  Frances ran the 1500 in the 2008 Olympic Trials and the 5000 in the 2012 Olympic Trials, and she hopes to qualify for a third Trials in 2016 competing for GRC.  Frances is a high school math teacher in Sandy Spring, MD.
