Charlie grew up in Pittsburgh and followed Dave O’Hara through the Mt. Lebanon cross country program, through which he gained a love for the team atmosphere in distance running. While at the University of Richmond, coach Steve Taylor developed Charlie’s desire for a running-centric lifestyle that continues today.
He worked for a Western Pennsylvania newspaper while competing for the Pittsburgh Pharaoh Hounds before moving to the DC area and following up on years of suggestions by O’Hara and Scott Munro to check out the GRC. Charlie lives in Northwest D.C. and works for the National Association of Counties. In his spare time, he edits RunWashington magazine and its accompanying website with Dickson Mercer, increasing the amount and quality of running journalism in the nation’s capital. He likes high mileage, low humidity and half marathons but hates long walks on the beach. And once he gets started, he likes talking to strangers at road races.
