Zach had some success after walking onto the football team as a free safety at Georgia Tech, earning a scholarship and leading the team with 13 special teams tackles his senior season. When football ended, he agreed to run a marathon with his brother-in-law after being promised a free trip to California. He describes it as a “disaster,” but decided to see what he could do with some consistent training and has since found an outlet for competition in distance running. With GRC, he hopes to learn from more experienced runners while exploring his potential in the sport. Professionally, Zach is a medical student and active duty Air Force officer at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine. He plans to complete a residency in internal medicine and has particular interests in cardiology and pulmonology/critical care.
