Nathan Bickell set his first PR when he broke 10 minutes in the mile at the age of five, but it would take until his junior year of high school before running displaced his dreams of playing center field for the Baltimore Orioles. Nathan competed for Annapolis High School in Maryland where he ran 4:30 for the mile because as Frank Shorter said “everyone ran a 4:30 mile in high school.” He continued on to Ithaca College where he qualified individually the Division III cross-country nationals in 2012 and ran every track event from the 800 to the 5k including a few forays into the steeplechase. Post collegiate, Nathan has run for Team Cricket (as in the discount cell phone company) in Dallas, TX, the Brooklyn Track Club in New York City, and now the Georgetown Running Club.
In his first season with GRC, Nathan accomplished his long standing goal breaking 15 minutes in the 5k, and then added his first sub 4:20 mile for good measure. Going forward he hopes to continue to set PRs, preferably those that fall just below nice round numbers. Nathan lives in Washington D.C. and is an attorney for the Maryland Office of the Public Defender.
