Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Yonel casually started running in middle school. At the time, he was a passionate tennis player and only competed in fall cross country as a means to improve his court coverage for the tennis season later that spring. Upon his coach’s urging, he increasingly gravitated to distance running before finally devoting himself to the sport entirely as a freshman in high school. He continued to compete through his undergraduate years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then with the Central Park Track Club while earning a Masters in International Relations at Columbia University before finally moving to the DC area in 2021 to pursue a Masters degree in Finance at Georgetown University. Yonel now works as Financial Institutions Policy Analyst for the Federal Reserve Board and looks forward to contributing to a strong team environment with GRC.
